Any oustanding blues should be more than only instruments and blues chords. I really enjoy blues, Muddy water, BB King, Robert Johnson. Hell, when I listen to blues I want an album that has not only blues but soul. So why the fuck would someone put out an album like this? I wanted this guess to be that is was their 1st album and with time they would get better, which is why I chose the title "A matter of time". It's a great title for this bands album, because that's what it's going to take them to choose Robert Johnson Status.
This band talks about their influences being those mentioned above, but it sounds an awful like riffs were "borrowed" from Elvis. There's a song on there that sounds like these amateurs trying to memorize the part of the song in Back to the Future where Marty gets up on stage to play guitar and then his hand starts dissapearing. The vocals are not soulfeld screams or hows, they're more just screaming.
Why a band would put an album out there like this is beyond me. It's the reason I don't listen to a lot of indie music, though I have started trying. I can envision them up on stage getting pelted with tomatos, water bottles, and anything else fans could get their hands on to get them off stage. What's odd about that? People who play the blues are usually mellow and stoned, but despite that, if this band ever toured with this junk, they better wear their worst clothes.
I'm all for good music, and good blues, but I want to listen to something that is going to make me think that the songwriter has been through. At best, the songs have some titles that are depressing, but it's the talent behind the band that dissapoints. It sounds more like a bunch of college kids who have a high enough grade in band class to pass a the semester but whose grades are so high the jazz band project will not affect the band, but they have to take the final.
I wouldn't buy this album, it's not listed on here, I'm sure there's a reason. Even though I spent 99 cents on it, I want to take it out into the street and run over it and throw it in the middle of the hot tucson summer pavement and let it just melt into the road because of the heat. I thought about putting it in the microwave, but that's not worth the damage it would do to my microwave.
