The Used have been Used up

What is emo? It's obviously emotionally charged music, a bunch of whining mixed with what some would call heavy guitar.  But seriously, has anyone EVER seen one of these bands live? If the goal of emo is to bring a sensation of wanting to kill yourself, all you've done is waste my time.  I will live on, but I must say that I was completely dissapointed when this "genre" of music came out.  If you're a vegan, fine, but emo is like goth on steriods, and you know what steroids do, they ENHANCE PERFORMANCE.

I never really cared much about emo, until I SAW an emo band, THE USED, live.  First of all the singer, Bert was easily antagonized.  Seriously dude, after yelling "shut up" for 5 minutes you should really get to playing bro.  The show started off so wrong and awful.  You can Youtube their live performance in Tucson at the Rialto.  Why would you invite 40 people up on stage to dance with you, only to verbally abuse them later during the performance.

I'm not really sure where all this is coming from.  But it's sad when you see a band that models their onstage behavior after Courtney Love. Actually this band isn't dysfunctional, at least Courtney had drug problems, the used doesn't really have much of an excuse.  I can't completely say I don't like the band, but, as their genre suggests, they are, ENHANCED. They are horrible live, aside from a handful of bands, I can honestly say I wasted 20 bucks on this show.  Their first album was great their second album was good, but from there on, they fell into this "emo" trap.  Maybe they got trapped in this genre with Hawthorne Heights and Yellowcard? But if you're a band that's fueled by doing a good job and making music, then you'd stand up to your label and tell them you're not making another cookie cutter album.  Obviously I can't really say The Used have done that.

I really don't even care about The Used anymore.  They just came up randomly on itunes and I started thinking about this concert.  Eventually my thoughts began to stew and I ended up writing a blog about how awful they were in concert.  It was obviously a scarring moment in my life.  All I see is this idiot singer spitting on a cutout of a political presidential candidate....stupid, what's even stupider is turning around and telling the guy who supports your political beliefs to "form his own beliefs"....that's when I started to walk out....unfortuntely I thought the baby would get on with it and stop whining so I stayed a little longer, but then he started yelling at the crowd, telling them to shut up while you try and meditate in front of them for an eternity is just a turnoff and I will never support you after you do something like that.  I hope your music and your genre become unappealing and die like the trendy jerkoffs that represent it, because your talent is obviously not worth the time.

Agreed, The Used lasted about as long as Lil Jon.  They were a flavor...and YES, Emo I believe is considered EMOTIONALLY CHARGED music, that's why I'm constantly fighting the flow of people when I say its not just whiny heavy rock.  Emo can be found in so many different forms of music.  That being said, dont throw the baby out with the bathwater.  Emo is still alive and kicking. Good rant tho...
