I got chucked!!!!

I'm not sure what to say. I guess it all started about a month ago, I won tickets to one of my favorites artists in the history of music, Atmosphere, on KDGE 102.1. I brought my fiance with the other free ticket, and convinced my best friend (another large Atmosphere fan) to go to the show. I guess it REALLY started about four or five years ago, when I interviewed Slug at SOB's in Manhattan. Though Daley (Slug) finished the interview, and never sent correspondence with negative feedback, after listening to the audio, I felt like maybe he was a bit sour with me and my questioning. "Why do you feel Jay-Z fans and fans of other hip hop and rap can't easily latch onto Atmosphere's music?". This is just about the most aggressive question I asked. Fast forward to Nov. 2008.... We're headed to the show, and we shared quite a bit of Yeast and Water. No two ways about it, we had our share of alchohol... That being said, in over twelve years, nearly a thousand concerts large and small, I was chucked out of the show for the first time in my life, at the House Of Blues in Dallas, TX tonight. When I asked security as to why, they as well as the city Police stated "The artist requested you be removed".

Readers of whatever circumstance, I am one of the most genuine, and chivalrous concertgoer you'll ever meet. While viewing the show, I danced with my fiance, and sang along to the music. Next thing I know two security guarads are pulling me by the shirt, and Slug is pointing at me directly, telling me "Guy In The Green Shirt!!!" "You shouldn't ruin my concert". Let's review before we go into the physical abuse that I endured after this. Before Atmosphere got on stage, we walked up, and my fiance did push our way up a bit, especially past the point of about five different females in one group. I pulled her back telling her I wouldn't cut in front of women...Other couples, other men, yes. A group of short women...absolutely not. And the women in front of us began conversation with us thanks to my classy move. The show began, and everyone began having a good time. The next possible reasoning behind my mysterey chuck was perhaps the 5'2 blond female two people in front who was getting dousted in alcohol. However, after asking my fiance in front of em if it was us, and being told no, they agreed to be careful, and the woman enver left her spot, and had no date. So who could've told security from that circle? Next about four minutes later, while dancing very closely to my fiance and no one else, one scrubby looking boy who had the grimace of a hard life was yelling at me. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING, YOU BUMPED INTO ME?" . Ladies, gents, I was dancing behind my fiance (three people away from him), who later stated she never even touched anyone in front of her muchless someone who was another person in front.

At this point, about two mins after settling the argument with some ten second dirty looks, we both went back to enjoying the concert. Three minutes later, in between the second and third song, I have two security guards yanking me out of the crowd. I said "For What?".... they said 'Comon'. I tapped my fiance on the shoulder and advised her I was getting pulled out. Once outside of the front crowd, I was treated like a child molestor. I did no resisting...I allowed them to grab me by my stretched out arms as they set out, while Daley pointed me out to the entire crowd, advising me not to fight security, and that I wasn't welcomed at his concert. Never once in my life have I ever denied authority its process to detain me. I was then thrown into a backroom where five security guards threw my DOSSILE body to the wall and then ground attempting to actually injure me, not subdue me. I continually stated, I'm not fighting you... and their grip got tighter. Suddenly my fiance appeared they questioned her, and the police arrived. Eventually, after they checked my ID, I was escorted out of the building, my fiance went upstairs and advised my friends, and they both met me outside.

Friends... in the end, sober faced, I'm still confused as to what I did to deserve to be thrown out of the club. I do remember saying fairly loudly where's Dibbs?!?!?!Though ANT is the mad scientist, and the man behind the controls, Something just seems to be missing without Dibbs.  And between the sudden departure of Dibbs and Musab in the last few years from the RSE crew, Im starting to think Daley is a bit more jagged than he likes to rhyme. I want so bad to believe it was not my ballsy journalistic inquiry nearly half a decade ago that caused this. Surely, a man of Daley's stature didnt recognize me 5 rows back from five years ago. IF so, why would getting me chucked out of the show be a good resolution? Freedom of speech is what put us here to begin with. If its not my contact with RSE; Kevin (formless21@hotmail.com), or the info Dennis sent to info@rhymesayers.com, then what did I do. I don't want retribution or even to put out bad word about Atmosphere, or Slug or Daley. Sure his voice sounded like he was sucking on laughing gas tonight, but he's still a talented artist. Even the openers Abstract, and Blueprint (who is always great), were terrific. Sure he made me look like a fool for enjoying his grooves. Regardless, I deserve an explanation as to WHY he requested security yank me. I wont listen to another song, promote to another person or go to another concert of his until I receive one.

Furthermore, I am now heavily considering discontinuing all music reviewing and writing. IF there is no other reason other than the interview nearly five years ago, then its time to literally hang 'em' up. Cause it'll be a cold day in hell before being a critique stands in my way of having a great time with friends at one of my favorite artists' shows. I'm bruised, and confused...

Still awaiting the pictures from my friend and cousin, but Sean delivered, put me and two friends on the guest list.  I didnt wind up going due to scheduling conflict, but my friends had a blast, and Atmosphere , RSE and Daley are still classy acts...

Thanks dscanland, lol....Nerd!!  No, I hate to do that, turn people off of Atmosphere's music cause of something so polluted like this episode.  To be honest, I wont be listening to his stuff for a long while.  I certainly wont ever purchase anything again... nonetheless its my experience, and I suppose it holds true that experience to happen onto you or anyone else.  But my direction was not to spoil or sour the world's opinion on Slug, merely to get an answer as to why it was done so I can move on.  As of right now, sure my favorite musical innovator has me searching elsewhere.  Which sucks cause his work with Ant is the best in Hip Hop today.

Wow hstisgod! I can't even believe it. Maybe you totally struck a note with that Jay-Z comment but I doubt it. I will follow suit and not listen to any more Atmosphere (even though I do like the new album) and won't attempt an interview. I hope you and your fiance better luck and the next show you decide to attend.
