Cloning
Cloning, to save a long winded definition is replication of any given organism, whether it be a plant, a sheep or a…human? I ask myself, if they have successfully cloned so many things, then why not a human being? I think it is well worth being experimented with. Many think it is “immoral”, put your bible down for a second and think about all the good that can come from this technology. Picture this, little Johnny is an only child with leukemia. With cloning he can have is exact bone marrow cloned and given back to him. Same thing for the diabetic child with liver failure, a body wouldn’t reject its own liver would it?
In the 2004 drama/thriller “Godsend” a couple who had recently lost their son in an accident used cloning to bring him back. If cloning was researched and used more, these sort of things may in fact be possible. Cancer patients may rid themselves of the deadly cells with cloning. Numerous diseases, too many to list, could be battled, cured, or even destroyed with cloning. The argument against cloning is just weak. The only argument I know of is on a religious basis. It is “immoral”, and it is “God’s work”. Well not too long ago Christians believed that the anesthetics used during childbirth were unethical too, but nowadays it would be hard to find a woman who does not agree with the positive aspects of anesthetics. Maybe history will repeat itself, maybe they will one day open their eyes and see that cloning can drastically improve society as we know it.
Take a look at the Siberian Tiger, a very beautiful, but fierce animal, just ask Roy of “Siegfried & Roy”. Nevertheless, this species is on the endangered species list. With cloning scientists would be able to produce Siberian Tigers, American Bald Eagles and Condors by the thousands, by the hundreds of thousands if they would like.
I mean, if you were going to ban something for being “unethical” is some peoples eyes, no one would be able to eat meat. Vegetarians think it is immoral to eat meat, or any animal buy product, for example: milk, cheese, or eggs. Well, if it is unethical in their point of view then I guess I won’t be able to buy a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich tomorrow. If we don’t listen to vegetarians then why listen to religion?
Science is about experimentation, then why not let them experiment? It has done us right in the past, you know this must be true because most people under the age of twenty doesn’t really know what polio is. Cloning may prove to be a very good thing, and if for some reason it proves to be immoral, then we just lost this argument, and the idea of cloning may be thrown out the window.
Comments:
I see nothing inherently wrong with the idea of cloning and the research going into it; it all has to do with application, right? It's not like every scientist who helped break ground on splitting the atom did it with the atomic bomb in mind. If anything, cloning only raises questions about human identity and consciousness, and, for lack of a better term, the 'soul'. If a person is created in a lab, does it make them any less a person?
See, the only problem I can think of comes down to the idea of ownership: if a biotech firm creates an entire human being from a few cells, can they then claim the clone as property? What effect will this have on our notions of slavery? Will corporations be able to file patent on the human genome? What about the person whose cells were used to begin with; are they able to exert some legal muscle?
Like I said, it all comes down to application of the science, and if anything, it only highlights the necessity of temperance and consideration when investigationg these matters.

Yeah, and have you seen the trailer for that wacky New Zealand horror/comedy 'Black Sheep'? That'll turn you off cloning. That's all I need, a bunch of killer reviewers tracking me down, eating my flesh off of my skeleton.

I'm against cloning for now, I'd like to see a lil more success in cloning things less dramatic as humans first.
Remember watching Godsend in the truck on your portable DVD player in the rain during camping. That was actually a fairly comfortable moving setting lol.

I'm gonna start cloning reviewers. Yup, that's what I'm gonna do.
