In the past few years, you may have read about or tried out Internet radio. Pandora, Last.fm, Slacker, WOXY, KEXP-all well-known webcast greats. You may have also read a little something on a royalty debacle that's apparently threatening webcasters, and every so often one of the big-names in the business comes out and declares they'll go out of business if forced to pay high royalties.

The situation is all a little confusing, but it boils down to this: The music industry (RIAA, royalty collect

“What we need are critical lovers of America - patriots who express their faith in their country by working to improve it." - Hubert H. Humphrey

It’s always easier to deal with and discuss problems of politics, religion, and society as a whole when within the realms of music. Beyond certain albums’ catchy tunes worthy of “Best of” lists, their lyrics and themes offer interesting analysis, criticism, and some solutions to our current state of be

In a form of controlled-leaking, In Our Bedroom After The War was released digitally online, with a physical manifestation of the album to come later. Their label, found here), I’ve been breaking out all my old Pumpkins’ CDs (and there are a lot), and re-falling in love with the (arguably) best alternative band of the ‘90s. A play-by-play (or album-by-album) run-through that will maybe get you excited enough to break open your personal c

Now that it is finally warming up in the Midwest (although 40's again this week, whats up with that?) its time for some summery melodies and warm tunes...or whatever. So here's a handful of bands that have been prancing through my ears as I enjoy the sunshine.

Fireflies--A lone artist from Chicago named Lisle Mitnik who cranks out some blissful tunes that are really both haunting and uplifting at the same time. "Les Belles Etoiles" is a pe

Its finally Friday and I've been catching up with bands I've found throughout the week, but never got a chance to listen to all that long. Also submitted to the Last.fm site, (my profile is here). Okay! What I've been listening to lately:

What I’m Listening to Lately:

SnowdenAnti-Anti: I heard Snowden perform live on WOXY.com during SXSW and was intrigued. They have a borderline electronic sound and, are just damn catchy at times. I ventured an email and soon enough the album arrived in my mailbox. “Between the Rent and Me,” “Anti-Anti,” and “Innocent Heathen” are some top tracks to che

It is much too late for discovery. Darkness has devoured the outside world, and creeps up from the bags under my eyes. The computer monitor bathes my stretched face with a pale lifeless glow. Artists and music flash before my eyes as I take in the information for writing that – my body painfully acknowledges – will take me deeper into the very dead of night. Reviews, articles, features—meaningless pieces of criticism that will soon be forgotten to my dreary mind. Yet, I run acr

A simple question: why do the Greeks in "300" all speak with British -- and sometimes Welsh -- accents?

Well, here's what I've been listening to lately:

Malajube--Trompe-l'Oeil: A great post-punk discovery from French Canada. I've posted a review on them if you want to read a bit more about them here. They've got really smashing drum beats and very cool melodies, not to mentio
