My daughter has become a music critic. She is really into certain bands and songs. She memorizes lyrics and learns little dances to match the beat of the music and loves to pogo. Her tastes are somewhat those you might expect from a young teeny girl of fourteen (but remember this is still my young tiny girl of four). Her top five would likely be:
- Plain White Ts "Hey There, Delilah"
- Jimmy Eat World "In the Middle"
- Jars of Clay "Work"
- Jars of Clay "Dead Man (Carry Me)"
- Colbie Callait "Bubbly"
I had Becca's help assmebling her list and finding the videos for each of them. Her other favorites would include The Cheetah Girls, Hannah Montana, The Jonas Brothers , Drake Bell and the score to the Pirates of the Carrbbean. Becca says, "I am into waaaaay too much stuff!" It might be true that my little girl is into way too much stuff but one thing she is definitely NOT into is political acoustic folk rock joke songs. I was exploring the internet for some new tunes and ran across a song that amused me by Roy Zimmerman "My TV" (amusing stuff!)... but apparently not enjoyed by my daughter because as the song ended...she moaned and whined, "Oh my! That song makes me wish I had no ears so I never would have had to hear it!" I am sorry but that was just a hilarious reaction and honestly...I have felt this way on occasion while she listened to her greatest hits of the Disney channel myself but never would have said it...and there wasn't a trace of irony. It was awesome.I will just remember that comment the next time she begs to listen to some Nickelodeon teen heart throb crap or overplayed pop-punk tune. Although to be honest, I could possibly enjoy most of my daughter's top five. It is all of the crap-factory music that Disney churns out that gets to me (not counting the score to POTC cause that is pretty awesome) and that my daughter and I don't see eye to eye on.
In the future, I will let Becca review some music for my blog...because it amuses me. I asked her what she thought of this entry and she said, "I have seen you type every letter but Q...I would really like to see a Q word in there"...I don't want to reread this to see if there is one she missed in here already so let me just say, "Quality" and leave it at that. Thanks for reading this.Comments:
Don't I know it! I love Jimmy Eat World but every now and then I would like to make it past this track without hearing, "Play that one again! It rocks,Daddy!" a million times until I give in...plus the girl isn't much for metal or country so there goes a ton of listening options while we are in the truck. I have to play the "because I am the Daddy!" card most of the time.

That is priceless! Kids are great for humour like this. Unfortunately my son (5) is into some song called Moments That Matter, a new country track he caught on the radio. It was ok the first 10 times but now I'm screaming for variety!
