I posted this already, but it's a little hard to find. I love this band, they're from my home town and they kick a lot of indie-folk-butt. Here's my two cents.
The Finch's debut album, Human Like a House, is a fine start. Half of the San Francisco-based folk duo is Carolyn Pennypacker Riggs (yes, Pennypacker), who's songwriting shines through simple melodies in songs like "Last Favor" and "Step Outside" (fields of flies/they wave their wire wings against my thighs/ my eyelids, weapons against all un-kinds). Her partner is Aaron Morgon, a UC Santa Cruz college buddy and member of Roots of Orchids, who supports her on guitar and vocals. Together they're sound is much like that of the Moldy Peaches their songs are almost too sweet, a little poetic, and always very simple. Riggs brings the genuine qualities of a folk singer of her mother's time (who, by the way, plays the recorder in this album), but still manages to charm the pants off of indie freak-folk lovers.
